ÖH Insuarance

ÖH insurance offers students at Austrian universities protection in the areas of liability and accidents. Once you have paid your ÖH membership fee, you are automatically insured for the entire semester and until the end of the grace period (March 31 in the winter semester and October 31 in the summer semester).

What is the ÖH Insurance?

The ÖH (Austrian Students' Union) has taken out collective student insurance with Generali Versicherungs-AG. This is to ensure that you are covered for typical everyday risks during your studies.

The ÖH insurance is divided into:

  • Liability insurance

  • Accident insurance

Policy numbers

  • Liability: 000 1810 4297

  • Accident: 000 1809 6819

Subsidiarity of ÖH insurance

ÖH insurance is subsidiary, which means that it only covers you if no other insurance (e.g., your private household or liability insurance or that of your parents) covers the damage. If you have already received a rejection from your private insurance company, you can submit these documents to Generali so that they can check whether it will provide benefits in your case.

What damage is covered?

Liability insurance

  • Insured sum: up to €1 million for property damage and personal injury
  • Examples: damage to laboratory equipment, property damage during field trips, negligence in the course of studies
  • Geographical restrictions: valid worldwide, except for the USA, Canada, and Australia

Accident insurance

  • Coverage:
    • €7,500 for accident costs
    • €50,000 for permanent disability
    • €15,000 for accidental death
  • Examples: Injuries on campus, during USI courses, on the direct way to classes, or during excursions

What to do when an insured event occurs

  1. Document the situation
    • Collect evidence and documentation (invoices, cost estimates, photos, etc.).
    • It is best to have the incident confirmed immediately (e.g., by the laboratory manager).
  2. Check your private insurance policies
    • Check your private insurance policies If you have household or personal liability insurance, ask them if your damage is covered.
    • If you have already received a rejection, keep it in a safe place.
  3. Fill out the claim form
    • Download the official claim form from the ÖH or Generali (see download section).
    • Enter your personal details, a detailed description of the damage, and the policy numbers.
    • Indicate whether you have other (private) insurance and whether it covers the damage or has been rejected.
  4. Submit all documents
    • Send the completed form, your current enrollment confirmation, and other supporting documents (invoices, confirmations, etc.) by email to oeh-versicherung.at@generali.com.

  5. Wait for a response
    • Generali will review your case and notify you of the next steps.
    • If your claim is rejected, you can contact the Department for Financial Affairs (email: wiref@oeh.ac.at) to have the case reviewed again.
