Institute

The Institute for Process and Particle Engineering, which was created by merging the Institute for Resource Efficient and Sustainable Systems with the Institute for Mechanical Process Engineering, is one of the largest institutes at Graz University of Technology with more than 40 scientific staff members. It is divided into four main departments: Pharmaceutical Process Engineering, Process Assessment, Energetic Biomass Utilisation and Zero Emissions Techniques and Systems. Additionally, the Institute of Process and Particle Engineering is also the “phalanx” behind the K 1 centres BIOENERGY 2020+ and RCPE.

The Institute for Process and Particle Engineering is characterised not only by strong practice-oriented research with international partners from science and industry alike, but also by its basic research emphasis. Due to its strong ties with partners from within the region, the institute contributes significantly to the fortification of Styria as a business location.

National and international joint ventures and partnerships are strengthened furthermore by the "Congress for Pharmaceutical Engineering" which takes place occationally. It offers a platform for the presentation of latest accomplishments (in research).

The newly developed Master's program "Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering" offers students required skills for working further in the pharmaceutical industry on the one side and the companies "fitting" graduates on the other.

The Institute of Process and Particle Engineering does consist of five independent research groups, which are include both basic and applied research:

  • Pharmaceutical process and particle technology
  • Continuous processes
  • Simulation Technology
  • Pharmaceutical materials science and design
  • Mechanical process technology, heterogeneous reactions, surface phenomena
