About Us!

We are the queer Referate (“Queer Departments”) of the universities in Graz. We work for the acceptance and rights of LGBTIQA* students, especially at our universities, but also beyond.

We are here to support you if you are a queer person who has experienced discrimination, if you are looking for advice and support on legal issues, or if you just need someone to talk to. We offer consultation hours1 at the universities and are also available via email. If we are unable to help you with your request, we will be happy to refer you to where you can get the support you need.

We want to help queer students connect with each other. Therefore, we meet regularly for events such as our meetups, game nights and our own book club. Furthermore, we are also involved in queer events outside the university. At all our events it is important for us to create a “safer space” for queer people. If you are new, you can connect with our Queer Buddies who can accompany you to our events.

We want to make society and especially our universities more open and queer-friendly. To achieve this, we offer workshops throughout the semester. With campaigns like “Uni Graz ist bunt” or the handing out of our rainbow goodie bags during pride month, we also reach out to people who are generally not exposed to queer topics.

Our biggest event of the year is Christopher Street Day. We are proud to organise the CSD parade here in Graz, working closely together with other queer organisations. Every year, more than 10,000 people join us in the parade through the city to show their support for queer rights.

Our events and activities would not be possible without the support of numerous volunteers. Would you like to join us?  New people and ideas are always welcome!

Even though our activities are primarily aimed at queer students, you are also welcome to join us if you do not directly identify yourself as part of the queer community but would like to support your queer friends or stand up for the acceptance of queer people. You are very welcome to join our events, even if you are not (or no longer) a university student.

Do you have any requests, or would you like to join us? Please contact us – we are looking forward to hearing from you!
